About River Country Economic Development Corporation
River Country Economic Development Corporation (RCEDC) is a 501(c) 6 not-for-profit corporation primarily dealing with the economic development needs of the Nebraska City/Otoe County area. RCEDC focuses on the retention, expansion and attraction of business and industry in the region.
A 16 member Board of Directors governs the activities of RCEDC. The Board of Directors is represented by a cross section of active economic development supporters as well as governmental leaders. The Board of Directors are nominated to represent each of the following areas: Financial, Workforce, Education, Community Involvement, Retail, Communications, and Tourism. Four Board members are appointed to represent the Nebraska City City Council, Otoe County Board of Supervisors, Nebraska City Utilities and the Nebraska City Tourism & Commerce office. RCEDC is financed through contributions from the local City and County governments as well as donations from utility providers.
An Executive Director oversees the daily operation and activities of the organization while a Marketing Coordinator is also on staff to assist with RCEDC's development efforts.
Mission Statement:
To promote the attraction, creation, retention, and expansion of businesses and to enhance our quality of life in Nebraska City and Otoe County.
Priorities:
- Identify, develop and market potential development sites in Otoe County
- Actively assist and recruit potential employers who create quality jobs and who are best suited to the resources of Otoe County
- Assist current business and industry with retention and expansion needs
- Identify, recruit and assist entrepreneurs in the area
- Work with local governmental entities on future development, land use and infrastructure needs
- Educate the public about the importance of economic development to the future of the area
- Assist with the growth of a quality, skilled local workforce
- Work on a regional basis to promote the resources and quality of life in Southeast Nebraska
